Article Two: ‘The Copy’
The Arts Council Grants for the Arts application forms require a 100-word summary. We have come to repeat it almost verbatim when anybody asks us what it is that we’re doing:
‘On the 18th March 1941 … everybody survived – no fatalities’.
‘Article One’ presents us with a story, and some back story in a particular fashion and that fashion is copy. In response to the demands of the market, we presents a series of omissions. The story, the copy, is amongst the first of all of the speculative gesture an artist or group of artists is obliged to produce, and is all too frequently too rushed. Yet out of these holes, possibilities emerge; and it buys the permissions we need to – decisively – begin again.
